After months, Marshfield town administrator search continues

Officials weigh timing of hiring decision as candidate review begins anew

After nearly a year of interim leadership, Marshfield is again mulling candidates for the town administrator position.

Interim Town Administrator Peter Morin said the application period for the permanent town administrator position closed at the end of last week, with a screening committee expected to begin reviewing candidates.

Board members discussed whether the hiring process should be completed before the upcoming town election or whether it would be better to wait until a newly elected board member takes office.

Darcy said timing could be a deciding factor depending on the availability of candidates.

“The tie breaker for me would just be if we’re at risk of losing someone over timing, because maybe they have another opportunity,” Darcy said.

Morin said a screening committee will review applications before finalists are selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Since Marshfield parted ways with former Town Administrator Michael Maresco in April 2025, Marshfield has relied on interim leadership. Two acting town administrators have served during that period, allowing the town to continue day-to-day operations, budget forecasting, and departmental oversight while the search moved forward.
