Marshfield Select Board Votes on Town Leadership Shift
MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield Select Board voted Monday night to approve a separation agreement with Town Administrator Michael Maresco, formally ending his tenure with the town and immediately setting a course forward by appointing Peter Morin as interim town administrator.
The vote on the separation agreement was 2–1, with board member Eric Kelly casting the lone dissenting vote. Kelly raised concerns about the financial terms of the agreement.
The agreement, negotiated with legal representation on both sides, includes three months of severance pay, retention of Maresco’s phone and number, and a mutual non-disparagement clause.
Board Chair Lynn Fidler acknowledged the difficult transition, noting the board’s commitment to respecting employee privacy while supporting town operations during the leadership change.
Peter Morin Unanimously Appointed Interim Town Administrator
Immediately after approving the separation agreement, the board turned to the appointment of an interim leader. Former Norwell Town Administrator Peter Morin was unanimously approved to serve as interim town administrator and also named the town’s temporary procurement officer.
Morin, who recently completed an interim role in Phillipston, told the board he is ready to get to work immediately and emphasized his focus on financial stability, collaboration, and preparation for the upcoming town meeting.
Board members questioned Morin extensively about his fiscal management experience, approach to leadership, and availability during the transition. The position is part-time, up to 30 hours per week, at a rate of $75–$100 per hour.
Morin also committed to providing biweekly updates to the board and submitting an exit memo with recommendations before the end of his term.
With the appointment finalized, the board voted 3–0 in favor of his contract and role as interim procurement officer.
