HANOVER — Voters elected new local officials Tuesday, with candidates emphasizing collaboration, affordability and unity as results became final following the town election.
James Hoyes, who won a seat on the Hanover Select Board, thanked residents for their support and said he planned to focus on strengthening the community while working with fellow board members.
“I am filled with gratitude and appreciation today based on yesterday’s election results,” Hoyes wrote in a Facebook post. “Thank you for the support and confidence in me. I will work hard to fulfill my campaign commitments and focus on Hanover, Hanover and Hanover.”
Hoyes also praised the tone of the campaign season and thanked both winning and unsuccessful candidates for participating in local government.
“I want to thank all the candidate for running very professional campaigns focused on issues,” Hoyes wrote. “I am excited to join Vanessa, Greg, Steve and Rachel on the Hanover Select Board. While doubtful we will agree on all the issues, I am confident we will work very professionally together, respect each other’s positions, and ensure options are fully explored.”
Jason Factor, elected to the Board of Assessors, also highlighted the collegial nature of the campaign and thanked fellow candidates and residents after the results were announced.
“Thank you to all the contestants for running a very collaborative and collegial campaign,” Factor wrote. “Congratulations to all the winners.”
Factor also recognized Viola Ryerson for her service to the town.
“Special things to Viola Ryerson for her years of service and kind words of congratulations,” Factor wrote. “I look forward serving Hanover to ensure we remain a strategically growing town that remains affordable for our residents and profitable for our business community.”
Hoyes said participation in local government remained important regardless of election outcomes.
“Congratulations to all the election winners and also to those who came up short,” Hoyes wrote. “Participation in government is critical. It take a lot of time, resources and commitment to run for office. I really admire anyone who steps up for a run for office, so I say a specific ‘thank you’ to Hanley and Vi.”
