Governor Maura Healey announced several discounts on MBTA Commuter Rail passes over the summer, saying that monthly passholders can save as much as $600 this summer.

The discounts are designed to “lower costs for riders, support regular commuters and encourage more people to choose public transportation” in the busy summer season.

Commuter Rail service will be free on all Fridays from June to August.

All monthly Commuter Rail passes will be 50% off from June to August except for those in Zone 1A. Non-monthly passes will remain full price.

Monthly pass holders will also be able to enjoy expanded weekend travel: monthly passes will be valid for travel to any zone on Saturday and Sunday, but this does not apply to Zone 1A and ferry passes. Special event trains will remain full price.

The last perk for monthly pass holders will be a $1 ticket for one companion on any Commuter Rail trip on weekends.

Besides the discounts, the governor announced that Commuter Rail schedules will be adjusted in June and July. The only detail shared about the adjusted schedules is that Commuter Rail service will be expanded to accommodate 20,000 passengers to Boston Stadium during the World Cup.
