COHASSET — The town has narrowed its applicants for town manager down to four finalists who will advance to the next stage of the application process: public interviews with the select board.
The four finalists are Michelle Leary, the current interim town manager and former assistant town manager, René Read, Karen Preval and Daniel Riviello. Read is the current town manager of Duxbury.
The town manager search committee interviewed seven of 28 applicants presented by MRI, a firm contracted by the town to assist with the search, and recommended those four.
The committee’s chair, Timothy Davis, said that the candidates hail from eight states but that most reside in Massachusetts. He did not share any information about the final four candidates beside their names in his April 14 presentation to the select board.
“The applicant pool reflects a high level of professional qualification, including candidates with advanced degrees and a range of municipal leadership experience,” he said.
He said that MRI conducted background checks and preliminary interviews of each candidate.
The select board has not yet scheduled the round of public interviews, but Chair Ellen Maher said she wanted to finish them by the end of April. After the interviews, the select board can vote to appoint one of the candidates as town manager.
“This is a priority,” she said. “A lot of work was put into it, and I'd like us to keep the ball rolling.”
