Vandalism Hits Widows Walk Golf Course in Scituate
SCITUATE - Scituate officials are responding to a case of vandalism at Widows Walk Golf Course after a group of teenagers entered the property after hours and caused damage to one of the course’s greens.
The teens reportedly rode bicycles across the course and used a golf club to gouge portions of the green surface, creating noticeable damage. While course staff have aerated the affected area in hopes of restoring it, repairs may not fully recover the surface. The estimated cost to build a green is approximately $50,000, highlighting the significance of the damage.
In response, the town has increased camera surveillance around the golf course and made clear that prosecution will follow for any future incidents involving property destruction or unauthorized access.
Town officials have also reminded residents that Widows Walk is currently open only for golf play. Recreational activities such as walking, biking, or dog walking are not permitted on the course at any time.
Parents are being encouraged to speak with their children about respecting public property and understanding the consequences of trespassing and vandalism.
Widows Walk, a popular municipal golf course known for its challenging layout and coastal views, is considered a valuable community resource. The town is urging residents to help protect it by reporting suspicious activity and staying off the course when it is closed.
