NORWELL – A large crowd at Norwell’s Clipper Complex Friday night was given a brief scare after attendees reported concerns that a minor in the woods near the stadium might have a weapon.

The Norwell Police Department, working with school administrators, responded quickly. A statement provided by school officials said that an investigation found no evidence of a weapon.

Attendees tell South Shore Times that concern spread quickly through both the football crowd and families attending the Norwell Youth Soccer World Cup. They also reported seeing someone being escorted from the game with police officers.

School officials said families with additional concerns should contact their building administrators.
