Marshfield’s Martinson Elementary partners with senior residents to foster intergenerational joy and learning.
In Marshfield, a heartwarming tradition continues as first graders at Martinson Elementary welcome seniors from nearby Proprietors Green for a morning of reading, painting, and games. What began with holiday caroling has grown into a meaningful intergenerational connection. Teachers Beth Debya and Erika McHugh say the experience sparks joy and social-emotional growth for students and brings vital cognitive stimulation and companionship to their older guests. Channel 5’s Chronicle showcased how community, compassion, and curiosity thrive when generations meet in the classroom.
