Female Walkers Attacked in Two Separate South Shore Incidents

Police in Marshfield and Rockland Investigating Assaults on Women Walking Alone

Two women were assaulted in separate incidents while walking alone in South Shore communities last week, prompting police in Marshfield and Rockland to appeal to the public for information.

In the most recent case, Marshfield police responded to a residence off Ocean Street in the Rexhame area at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, following a report of an assault that occurred earlier in the evening. The victim told police she had been walking home on Ocean Street around 9:45 p.m. when she noticed an older-model white pickup truck with no license plates passing her multiple times.

According to the police report, a passenger in the truck exited the vehicle and said, “You should come with me.” When the woman refused, the man replied, “You’re a scary little girl,” and grabbed her by the wrist. She was able to break free and knock him to the ground. The truck drove off without him, and the woman ran to safety, leaving the suspect behind.

Marshfield police conducted a K-9 search of the area but did not locate the man. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences.

The victim described the suspect as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, in his 60s, with a thin build and dark hair styled in a mullet. He was wearing a white tank top and had missing teeth. She said he may have visible injuries on his face. The truck’s driver was described as having a similar appearance.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Officer Bruno of the Marshfield Police Department at 781-834-6655, ext. 1100.

The Marshfield case occurred just three days after a similar assault was reported in Rockland.

On Wednesday, July 23, Rockland police received a call from a woman who said she had been attacked while walking her dog in the Rockland Town Forest, located off North Avenue near the Abington town line and Salem Street.

According to police, the woman said she encountered a man in the woods who made inappropriate comments. As she tried to walk away, the man aggressively grabbed her arm and wrist. Her dog reacted by lunging at him, allowing her to escape and flee to her car.

The suspect in the Rockland incident was described as a white male, possibly in his 50s, with a medium build, short dark hair with some gray, and no facial hair. He was wearing a light-colored T-shirt, khaki shorts, and athletic sneakers. He had no visible tattoos, scars, or a distinct accent.

Rockland police searched the wooded area but did not locate the suspect. They are asking residents with surveillance footage near North Avenue and Salem Street—especially from noon to 4 p.m. on July 23—to contact the department.

Both cases remain under active investigation. Authorities have not indicated whether the incidents may be connected, but the back-to-back nature of the assaults has raised concerns among local residents.

Officials urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to their local police departments.
