A man was arrested Thursday night after police say he threatened a woman with a butcher knife inside an apartment at Island Creek Village before officers discovered cocaine and other drugs during the arrest.

Duxbury Police responded to the residential complex on the evening of Thursday, March 26, after receiving a report of two men fighting in a hallway.

When officers arrived, they were met by a woman who identified one of the men and told police he had attacked her inside her apartment, allegedly placing a large butcher knife against her throat.

Police located the suspect shortly after arriving and detained him.

During an initial pat frisk for weapons, officers reported finding a bag containing assorted pills, two prescription pill bottles that did not bear the suspect’s name, and additional drug paraphernalia.

While the man was being detained, officers said they noticed him tightly clenching his legs as though attempting to conceal something. Concerned he may be hiding a weapon, officers conducted a second pat frisk.

According to police, that search uncovered a bag containing benzodiazepines, a Class B controlled substance, along with another bag containing approximately 28 grams of a white powdery substance. Preliminary testing indicated the substance was cocaine, police said.

Officers later recovered the butcher knife allegedly used during the assault inside the apartment. The weapon was seized as evidence.

Police determined that the second man involved in the hallway altercation had been acting in self-defense, according to the report.

The suspect was arrested and faces multiple charges, including:

  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

  • Assault and Battery – Domestic

  • Assault and Battery

  • Disturbing the Peace

  • Possession of a Class B Substance (Subsequent Offense)

  • Possession of a Class E Substance (Subsequent Offense)

  • Trafficking in Cocaine

Authorities said the identities of those involved are not being released due to domestic violence laws.

The investigation remains ongoing.
