Duxbury PD adds three new officers, promotes another to sergeant
The Duxbury Police Department welcomed three new officers this week and celebrated the promotion of a decorated veteran officer to sergeant during Monday’s Select Board meeting at Town Hall.
Police Chief Michael Carbone introduced Officers Abigail Plourde, Thomas DeLaura and Michael Curley, each of whom took the oath of office administered by Town Clerk Susan Kelley. Carbone also announced the promotion of Katie McIlroy to sergeant. McIlroy was also sworn in by Kelley.
Officer Abigail Plourde, a Plymouth native, graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy in 2024. She previously served as a patrol officer with the Dennis Police Department before joining Duxbury.
Officer Thomas DeLaura, also from Plymouth, holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He began his career as a mechanic with the Massachusetts State Police and later spent 10 years with the Plymouth Police Department, where he served as a training instructor and patrol supervisor. DeLaura joined the Duxbury force in September.
Officer Michael Curley, a Plymouth native, earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bridgewater State University. After college, he served four years in the U.S. Navy before working for the Plymouth Police Department for the past decade.
“We are very excited to take on these three talented officers,” said Chief Carbone.
The department also celebrated the promotion of Sergeant Katie McIlroy, a Duxbury native who began her career with the department in 2012. McIlroy has served in numerous roles, including school resource officer, field training officer, and detective. She is a certified sexual assault investigator, a member of the Plymouth County Domestic Violence Task Force and has worked on the crime scene unit. McIlroy also supervised the town’s beach rangers when the program was under police oversight. In 2020, she received the department’s Life Saving Award.
