A pedestrian was struck and killed by a commuter rail train in Cohasset on Wednesday morning, prompting a multi-agency investigation and temporarily halting service along the Greenbush Line.

At 9:35 a.m., the MBTA commuter rail operations center informed Cohasset Police that a person had been hit by a train traveling inbound from Scituate to Boston.

The incident occurred on the tracks between the Sohier Street crossing and the Rocky Lane bridge.

Cohasset Police and Fire units responded to the scene and attempted to provide lifesaving aid.

“Their efforts were unsuccessful,” officials reported.

As a result of the incident, the Greenbush Commuter Line was shut down for approximately four hours while investigators from Cohasset Police, Transit Police, State Police, and the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office processed the scene and removed the victim.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the individual involved, pending notification of the family.
