Cohasset Police said that a 16-year-old Scituate resident crashed a vehicle on Route 3A near Shaw’s Plaza Feb. 7 at approximately 11 p.m. According to their Feb 8 release, Scituate police informed them earlier that day that the vehicle had been stolen.

The Cohasset police department arrested the 16-year-old and did not release any other identifying information.

An officer observed the vehicle traveling at 104 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone near Shaw’s Plaza. The operator “lost control of the vehicle in slippery winter conditions,” and the vehicle left the roadway, went airborne and hit a tree.

The car, a Toyota Rav4, was totaled, and Cohasset police removed the operator from the vehicle and rendered first aid. An ambulance then took him to South Shore Hospital.

No pedestrians were injured, and the press release did not describe the operator’s injuries. It also did not say if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Police say the teen faces charges for stealing the vehicle in Plymouth County and for crashing it in Norfolk County.
