Cohasset Select Board Member Julie Rollins to step down
Julie Rollins announced that she would step down from her position on the Select Board Feb. 24, after holding the position for ten months. Her three-year term was supposed to expire May 2028.
Rollins’ position will be on the ballot in the annual town election and will retain the original 2028 expiration once it is filled, Town Clerk Elizabeth Legge said. There will be no interim Select Board member appointed before then, as Select Board seats can only be filled in general elections.
Rollins serves as the Select Board’s Clerk and is the most junior member. The Select Board has not convened since Rollins’ announcement and has not chosen who will assume the duties of the clerk until Rollins is replaced, said Select Board Chair Ellen Maher in an email to the South Shore Times.
Rollins announced that she would step down in a statement to the Cohasset Anchor and explained that she had taken a new job in September 2025 that made it more challenging to manage her responsibilities on the Select Board. In response to requests for comment, she referred the South Shore Times to her statement in the Cohasset Anchor.
“Given the upcoming infrastructure and personnel needs our town faces, this position requires a consistent level of energy, volunteer time, and engagement that would be difficult to sustain long-term,” she told the Cohasset Anchor.
Rollins’ Facebook lists her as the director of clinical research at Boston Children’s Hospital since September 2025.
“Being a Select Board member requires more than just attending a 2 hour meeting every other week,” Maher said. “Meeting preparation, working on projects, attending other board or committee meetings and responding to constituents are just some of the other responsibilities of being an effective Select Board member, and Ms. Rollins certainly was more than effective.”
Rollins announced her candidacy for the Select Board February 2025 and said that she had served on the Recreation Commission and the Sidewalk Safety and Connectivity Committee. In a Facebook post announcing her candidacy, she said that she had lived in Cohasset for a decade and had three children in Cohasset public schools.
