Scituate High School’s winter sports teams wrapped up the season with a series of impressive performances, breaking school records and bringing home league titles. From the wrestling team’s Patriot League victory to standout individual achievements in track and swimming, the Sailors proved themselves as a dominant force in high school athletics.

Wrestling and Hockey Take Home Titles

The Scituate wrestling team secured the Patriot League title, a particularly historic win as they defeated Plymouth South, a team that had not lost a league match since 2011.

“Congratulations to our wrestling team for winning our Patriot League title, which was highlighted by beating the Plymouth South team who had not lost a league since 2011,” said student representative Jane Ryan.

Scituate High School Principal Ryan Beattie, who previously coached Plymouth South’s wrestling team for 29 years, shared a mixed reaction to the result.

“He is happy for the Sailors, but feeling a sense of remorse for his old team,” Ryan noted.

Meanwhile, the boys’ hockey team continued the school's winning streak by securing at least a share of the Patriot League title as they head into the tournament season.

Record-Breaking Performances in Track and Swimming

The Scituate winter track team also made headlines, with several athletes achieving major milestones at the league meet.

“Congratulations to Jack Deandro, Grayson Foley, Tyler Morrison, and Ben Roach for setting a new school record for the four by 200,” Ryan announced.

In addition, Grace Taylor placed first in the high jump, while Lauren Thompson threw 38 feet, 6 inches in the shot put, auto-qualifying for nationals.

Scituate’s swim team also performed well at the South Sectional Championships, with several individual standouts. Freshman Bella Jackson set a new school record in her event, continuing a strong season for the team.

“She did have one of the meets against Elle,” noted committee member Janice Lindblom, referring to another standout competitor in the league.

What’s Next for Scituate Athletics?

With winter sports championships wrapping up, Scituate’s athletes now turn their attention to state and national-level competitions. The hockey and wrestling teams will compete in their respective tournaments, while the track and field athletes prepare for potential national-level meets.

The strong performances this season reflect the dedication of the student-athletes, coaches, and school staff who have supported their growth. As Scituate looks ahead to spring sports, the Sailors will hope to carry their momentum into another season of success.
