HINGHAM - Hingham’s Girls and Boys Cross Country squads opened the season against powerhouse Marshfield and, while both teams came up short on the scoreboard, they showed plenty of grit and promise for the season ahead.

The Girls were led by standout performances from sophomore Casey Gately, senior captain Mary Slankas, and sophomore Samantha Jesson. On the Boys’ side, senior captains Gavin Anderson and Tommy Simpson set the pace, with strong runs from juniors Will Watts and James Hamilton close behind.

Marshfield may be the perennial team to beat, but Hingham’s mix of veteran leaders and rising talent is poised to make noise in the league. This was just the first mile in a much longer race.

Next up: Hingham hosts Whitman-Hanson on Tuesday, 9/16 at 4:00 PM. The course starts and finishes near the fields by the close parking lot—come cheer the Harbormen as they chase down their next victory!
