Hingham Track Teams Open Season with Strong Performances
HINGHAM — The Hingham High School track and field teams launched their spring season on April 8 with a competitive dual meet against Plymouth North, as the boys edged out a narrow 69–67 win while the girls team fell 85–51.
Competing in freezing conditions that felt more like winter than spring, both teams delivered impressive performances in the season opener.
Boys Recap
Colin McNamara and Graham Carlson led the way in the 100m and 200m.
In the 400m, Matt McCarthy ran 54.27 for second place, followed closely by Nate Antoine at 55.42 for third.
Thomas Simpson clocked 2:09.02 for third in the 800m.
Aaron Roberts and Gavin Anderson dominated the 1-mile and 2-mile events.
Ralph Harris and Owen Halle placed second and third in the 400 hurdles, while Cian Griffin took third in the 110 hurdles.
The 4x100m relay team of JJ Jahbriel Johnson, Kwaku Oppong, Colby Silverio, and Jack Brockney secured first place.
In the 4x400m relay, McCarthy, Aydin Beck, Adam Healey, and Antoine won with a strong 3:45.07.
Zack Larsen had a standout day, winning both the shot put (40'5" PR) and discus (134'5" PR).
Tyler Grady and Zach Wong went 1–2 in the javelin with throws of 136'1" and 128'4", respectively.
Sean Curry won the high jump at 5'4" and placed fourth in the long jump.
Thomas Simpson placed third in the triple jump at 31'2.5".
Girls Recap
Jasai Shakespeare won the 100m in 13.83 and took second in the long jump.
Sophomore Vivian Sichol placed second in the 100m, third in the 400m, and won the high jump with a personal record of 4'10".
Meghan Koenen and Margaret Towle posted PRs in the 400m and 800m.
Senior Clare Lowther placed second in the mile, with Olivia Dorn in third.
In the 2-mile, sophomores Caroline Newth and Sophia McDougall finished second and third with PRs.
The 4x100m relay team of Shakespeare, Ellie Truong, Kate Hall, and Lauren Howard placed first.
The 4x400m relay of Walsh, Lowther, Towle, and Koenen took second with a time of 4:59.12.
Sophia McDougall won the discus at 86'3" and placed third in javelin.
Zoe Schulze was third in discus and second in javelin.
Hannah Givney and Adeline Lundin placed second and third in shot put.
Senior Lauren Howard placed second in the triple jump at 29'1".
Looking Ahead
The Harbormen return to action at home on Tuesday, April 14, against Silver Lake. With a strong mix of experienced athletes and emerging talent, both the boys’ and girls’ teams are poised for a promising season.
