Hingham Track Opens Season with Strong Early Performances
Hingham Girls Track & Field opened the season on Wednesday, April 8 with grit, energy, and a willingness to try something new.
Taking on Plymouth North in their first dual meet, the Harbormen showed depth, determination, and a lot to build on.
While the final score doesn’t tell the full story, the performances absolutely do.
From the sprints, Lindsey McManus (Grade 11) came in 2nd in the 100m and Paige Fabella (Grade 10) captured 2nd in the 200m, making a strong impact. In the 400m, Lily Walden (Grade 9) and Lila Sweeney (Grade 11) ran strong races to finish 2nd and 3rd, while Maggie Towle (Grade 10) added another 2nd place finish in the 800m.
The hurdles stood out as a highlight. In the 100m hurdles, Mary Kyriss (Grade 10) ran a personal best and Allison Korn (Grade 10) also hit a PR. In the 400m hurdles, Meghan Koenen (Grade 12) took 1st, with Maddie Everett (Grade 11) placing 2nd.
Distance events brought both experience and new faces. Ally Mildrum (Grade 11) ran a PR to place 2nd in the mile, while Anne Kyriss (Grade 12), competing in track for the first time, impressed with a 3rd place finish. Kyriss returned in the 2-mile to take 2nd, alongside Emma McGathey (Grade 11), who earned 3rd with a personal best.
In the field, the high jump group delivered. Grace Zimmerman (Grade 9) and Dee Sweeney (Grade 10) each cleared a personal best of 4'4", while Ellie Truong (Grade 11) set a PR at 4'6". Zoe Schulze (Grade 12) led the throws with a 1st in javelin and 2nd in discus, and Martina Misdea (Grade 11) added a 3rd place finish in long jump.
Coaches Brie Fitzgibbons and Jean Schnorr couldn’t be more proud of the effort, attitude, and early progress.
Hingham Boys Track & Field opened their season with a strong, statement win over Plymouth North, 73–63, powered by leadership, versatility, and standout performances across the board.
Leading the way, Owen Benard (Grade 12) delivered a dominant performance in the throws, winning both the shot put and discus with massive personal bests. On the track, Graham Carlson (Grade 12) swept the sprints, taking 1st in both the 100m and 200m with impressive early-season times.
Gavin Anderson (Grade 12) showcased range, winning the mile, 2-mile, and triple jump. Strong supporting performances added crucial points. Tommy Simpson (Grade 12) placed 2nd in both the 800m and triple jump, while Travis O’Neil (Grade 10) took 2nd in the mile and 2-mile, contributing key distance points. In the field and mid-distance events, Tristan Campbell (Grade 10) cleared his way to 1st in the high jump, and Kwaku Oppong (Grade 10) added a 2nd place finish in the 400m.
What stood out most across both teams was the willingness to take on multiple events, set the pace, and compete hard for one another. If this meet was the opening chapter, the rest of the season is shaping up to be a compelling read. Up next: @Silver Lake, Thursday, April 16th, 4:00pm
