Hingham Track & Field Teams Dominate Silver Lake in Dual Meet
The Hingham High School Track & Field teams surged past Silver Lake in a dominant showing this week, with the boys team cruising to a 104–32 victory and the girls team securing a strong 66–47 win. The meet, though cut short by sudden rain and wind, featured a slew of personal records (PRs), season bests, and state-qualifying performances that underscore Hingham’s rising momentum this spring.
Boys Blow Past Silver Lake
From sprints to distance events and the field, the boys team controlled the meet from start to finish.
Sprints & Relays:
Senior Graham Carlson led a sweep of the 100m, joined by Sam Reffue and Colin McNamara, and went on to clock a season-best to win the 200m. McNamara added a PR win in the 400m, with Matt McCarthy close behind. Both relay teams clinched firsts: the 4x100 squad (Jack Brockney, Sam Reffue, Colby Silverio, and Michael Blackwood) and the 4x400 team (Matt McCarthy, Tucker Tomlinson, Adam Healey, Nate Antoine) left no doubt.
Distance:
Aaron Roberts posted a PR to win the 800m, followed by Tommy Simpson in second. In the longer events, Gavin Anderson and Oliver Sandifer notched PRs in the mile, while Travis O’Neill led a 1-2-3 punch in the 2-mile with a standout PR, joined by Anderson and Sandifer again.
Hurdles:
Cian Griffin took the 110m hurdles, while Owen Halle and Tristan Campbell followed with PRs. In the 400m hurdles, Nicki Harris led a sweep with Halle and Jack Monroe.
Field Events:
Hingham impressed across the board, with Tyler Grady and Zach Larsen landing top-three finishes in the shot put. The team swept the javelin, with Grady, Zach Wong, and Colin Henderson locking up all points. In the jumps, Sean Curry won the high jump, while Herbert Seto, Jordan Johnson, and Griffin swept the long jump—all three setting PRs. Simpson also claimed victory in the triple jump.
Girls Overcome Adversity for a Team Win
Despite missing key scorers and losing the final three events to inclement weather, the Hingham girls turned in a gutsy team performance.
Sprints & Relays:
Kate Walsh and Martina Misdea took 2nd and 3rd in the 100m, and Walsh returned to win the 400m in a season-best time. Kaylee Araujo added a third-place finish with a PR.
Distance:
Clare Lowther delivered a strong showing, winning the 800m and the mile, with Maggie Towle and Mary Slankas posting personal bests to support her.
Hurdles:
Catherine Salem led a clean sweep of the 100m hurdles, while Meghan Koenan blazed to a season-best 1:08.46 in the 400m hurdles—a time that qualified her for the Division 2 State Meet. Maddy Everett followed with a PR for second.
Field Events:
In throws, Zoe Schultz shined in the javelin with a winning throw of 100’2”, also a state-qualifying mark. She and teammate Sophia McDougal also placed in discus, while Hannah Givney and Kate Krespi recorded PRs in shot put. Vivian Sichol and Lindsey McManus added key points in the high jump.
Reflecting on the win, Coach Murphy praised the girls' resilience saying, “Despite missing a few key scorers, and the meet being called three events short due to rain, the women of Hingham Track stepped up to bring us a nice team win over Silver Lake. We finally had some nice weather before the sudden rain and wind, and the team took advantage of it by recording numerous PRs.”
With energy building and the postseason on the horizon, Hingham looks ahead to its next meet on April 30 against Whitman-Hanson.
