HINGHAM — In a meet charged with emotion, energy, and more sugar than a choccy milk mile, Hingham Track & Field delivered a massive team victory over rival Marshfield, doing it in the most meaningful way possible: together, and in honor of beloved coach Fred Jewett.
Combined with senior day celebrations, this was not just a win, but a statement.
The Harbormen came flying out of the blocks in the sprints, with Graham Carlson grabbing wins in the 100m (PR) and 200m as well as coming out of retirement in the long jump and triple jump with 2nd place and PRs in both. Michael Blackwood stormed to second in the 100 with a PR of his own, while Jahbriel Johnson blazed through the 200 and 400, earning a win, a second-place finish, and a pair of Prs.
Distance brought the same grit. Travis O’Neil dominated the 2-mile with a PR victory, Tommy Simpson battled to third in the 800, and Gavin Anderson doubled back with third-place finishes in both the mile (PR) and 2-mile. The distance crew once again proved they run on equal parts endurance and enjoyment of misery.
The hurdles and jumps? Tristan Campbell was everywhere, winning the 110 hurdles and high jump with PR performances while apparently ignoring the concept of gravity. Nolan McManus snagged second in the 400 hurdles with a PR, Lundon Jackson added key points in third, and Josh Greisner soared to a win in triple jump plus a third-place finish in long jump.
In the 4x100 relay, the team of Jack Griffiths, Jordan Johnson, Michael Blackwood, and Josh Greisner absolutely flew around the track for a PR victory that had the home crowd erupting.
In the field events, Owen Bernard continued his season-long campaign of launching heavy objects into neighboring zip codes, winning both shotput and discus. Zach Wong grabbed first in javelin and third in shotput, while Alec Menuchi added a PR third-place finish in discus.
What made the night special was not just the points on the scoreboard. It was the way every athlete contributed and worked together to support each other and set teammates up for success. Every sprint, every throw, every jump, every exhausted finish across the line carried a little extra meaning.
This meet showed what a team can look like when heart leads the way.
For Coach Jewett, the boys brought the noise and a win to feel proud.
