Cohasset Swim Team Wraps Up Home Season with Strong Performances

Facing Marshfield/Hanover, Cohasset swimmers shine in their final home meet, with standout wins and postseason qualifications.

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, the Cohasset High School swim team concluded their home season with a meet against the combined Marshfield/Hanover team at Connell Rink in Weymouth. Despite being outnumbered, Cohasset swimmers delivered commendable performances.

In the boys' events, Johnny Appleton secured victories in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races. Sam DeMello triumphed in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. Finn Yemini earned second-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke and contributed to second-place finishes in both the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay alongside Appleton, DeMello, and Joe Carvalho.

On the girls' side, Ashley Wagner won the 50-yard freestyle and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle. Alison Rudnick claimed first in the 100-yard butterfly and second in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior captain Annabelle Martin excelled with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. The 400-yard freestyle relay team, comprising Wagner, Shannon Grady, Rudnick, and Martin, also secured a victory.

Coach George Stamides praised the team's depth and camaraderie, highlighting the contributions from both seasoned swimmers and newcomers. He emphasized their dedication and mutual support as key strengths. Looking ahead, Martin, Appleton, and DeMello have qualified for Sectionals and States, setting the stage for a promising postseason.
