Letter: Nick Spolsino Seeks Election to Hanover Select Board
I am running for Hanover Select Board to bring fiscal sanity back to a town government that lost its way. My main goals, if elected, are to rebalance the budget to serve all of the town's residents, stop excessive taxation and spending, and to bring back common sense to governance
My family and I moved to Hanover in 2019 to make this town our forever home. Our two young children are in the Hanover school system, and they participate in town sports. My wife is heavily involved with the local Girl Scout Daisy troop, and I'm an Army veteran that coaches youth sports in Hanover as well in other south shore towns. We love this town.
Here are just a few of the numerous issues that our beloved town is facing in the very near future.
Did you know that the average yearly cost of this year's proposed override is no different than last years? The Town Manager said in a recent Select Board meeting that the average cost per household of this year's proposed override is about $1,000. But what he failed to mention was the other additional fee of $315 for the transfer station. When you add these together, there is no difference. This override hurts Hanover’s most vulnerable residents.
Did you know that the School Committee is saying that this proposed override is not even enough? Our School budget already makes up nearly 60% of the total town budget. While our firefighters, police officers, and DPW employees go without. It's unsustainable.
Did you know that the B. Everett Hall Field Redesign Project is using millions of Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds on a project that no one really wants and that we can’t afford to maintain after its completion? Those CPA funds come from a surcharge on our property tax. Let's use those funds to rehabilitate open spaces and sports fields that really need it and to benefit the community today.
If you don't, you're not alone. I will be your eyes and ears at town hall. I will ask the tough questions, make the tough choices, and I will always have Hanover’s back.
That's my promise!
Thank you,
Nick Spolsino
