Wayne Sawchuk

SAWCHUK, Wayne A beloved pillar of the Cohasset community and a lifelong entrepreneur, whose work spanned industries and generations, passed away peacefully, on June 7, 2025, at the age of 78. He was a powerful force known for his boundless energy, generous spirit, deep commitment to service and infinite good cheer.

Wayne shared his life with his beloved wife, Annette, his partner in every sense for 53 joyful years. Together, they raised two sons - Ryan and Aaron (Kate) and shared a passion for tennis that took them to countless courts and grand slams. They were lifelong players and avid fans, attending the U.S. Open for decades and even making the pilgrimage to Wimbledon and the French Open.

Wayne adored being a grandfather and leaves behind three cherished grandchildren - Owen, Graham and Benjamin Sawchuk - whose lives were lit by his warmth, humor and stories. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy of Lunenburg, MA; and his brother, Brian (Susan) of Westbrook, CT. He leaves behind many nieces and grandnephews, who loved taking backhoe and tractor rides with their uncle.

In addition, his two lifelong best friends of nearly 70 years, Glenn Pratt and Jerry Stanton, shared a bond with Wayne as steady and strong as any brotherhood. Wayne's entrepreneurial journey began at the age of 10 and never slowed. Over the decades, he founded and led a remarkable array of businesses, including Sawchuk Pratt Photo, Wayne Sawchuk Company, Minot Realty, National Abatement Services, Olde Forge Builders, Dream Communications and ColoSpace where he had a 20-year partnership with his son, Aaron.

Wayne's ventures reflected not only a keen business acumen, but also a relentless curiosity and drive to create, innovate and lead with integrity. A transformative figure in local development, Wayne played a vital role in shaping the character and landscape of Cohasset and the surrounding South Shore. Wayne's impact extended far beyond the professional sphere.

A resident of Cohasset for his entire life, he dedicated himself to public service with humility and resolve for over 50 years. He served as a Sewer Commissioner, on the Town Advisory Board, the Planning Board, the Veterans Memorial Committee, Alumni Fields Committee, Capital Budget Committee, Senior Housing Committee, and the Town Hall Building Committee, always guided by a deep respect for the town's heritage and its future.

He was also past President of the Cohasset Chamber of Commerce and later served on the boards of the Cohasset Historical Society and the Cohasset Land Foundation. He was instrumental in the development of the Cohasset Lightkeeper's and Willicut Commons Senior Center. Wayne was a proud and devoted member of the Rotary Club of Cohasset for 51 years, embodying the ideal of "Service Above Self" and serving as past president.

A man of deep faith, Wayne served as both Deacon and Trustee of Second Congregational Church. He was known for his thoughtful presence, kind words and enduring belief in the importance of community. Wayne lived with purpose, passion and principle.

Whether running a business, mentoring a colleague, building a home, serving his town, or spending time with family and friends, he brought joy and meaning to every corner of his life. His loss will be deeply felt - but his legacy will continue in every handshake, every story, every structure and every soul he touched.
