"A lamp is often unappreciated until the bulb blows."

The world is a little darker with the passing of Mark 'The Bear' Lawson on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Born on January 27, 1956 to Walter and Marie (Stoffel) Lawson, Mark attended North Quincy High School and graduated from Rockland High School in 1974 after the family moved in 1972. He was a heat-treater at Peterson and Nash in Hanover, working alongside his father and several family members. Other employment included the Boston Highway Department and some private security work.

He loved to sing and his mother was his biggest fan. Mark emceed the Massachusetts Country Music Awards for several years, where he was recognized as an up-and-coming new male talent. He performed in the annual Hingham Cabaret and considered its members as family. He also enjoyed Karaoke singing with his friends. Fishing with his nephew Jake was a favorite pastime. He was a member of Cross Roads Athletic Club and participated in their annual fishing trip for years. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mark loved America and the New England Patriots. He was excited they made the Super Bowl.

Mark was outgoing and friendly. He loved people, made friends easily and had a large generous heart. People mattered to Mark. He was a loyal and caring friend and a protective, devoted brother. He leaves behind three sisters. Jody (Tom) Ramsay of Maine, Diana (Steve) Lawson-Dalrymple and Karen (Bill) Tape, both of Rockland. Several nieces and nephews, close cousins, and so many wonderful friends.

Mark was predeceased by his parents who were his anchor and compass, and two dear sisters, Laurie Williams and Wendy Bauer. He had a solid faith in the cross and the resurrection, which gives us peace.

In lieu of flowers, smile at a stranger, hug a friend, or call your parents.=

Visitation will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 45 East Water Street, Rockland, Massachusetts, on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 3PM-7PM.
