Howard F. Benassi
Howard F. Benassi, age 88, of Kingston, formerly of Plymouth, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, January 9, 2026, at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia "Ginger" (MacKenzie) Benassi, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage filled with love, family and adventure.
Born on April 18, 1937, Howie the son of the late Eligio Benassi and Alice (Anderson) Benassi. He grew up in North Plymouth, received his education in local schools and graduated from Plymouth High School, where he met the love of his life, Ginger, at a school dance. He then earned a degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.
Howie enjoyed a fulfilling career as a manufacturing engineer, specializing in research and development. He dedicated 40 years to Wentworth Institute of Technology, significantly contributing to rocket and space shuttle projects for both the U.S. Air Force and NASA's manned space flight programs. He later transitioned to a consulting role with Primo Medical Group. A passionate basketball enthusiast, Howie played throughout high school and into adulthood, eventually becoming a local youth coach. He also enjoyed gardening,swimming and traveling. Up until his recent illness, Howie remained active and engaged in his work and in life.
He is survived by his children: Jennifer Scavone (Joseph) of West Yarmouth; Andrew Benassi (Deborah) of South Yarmouth; Russell Benassi (Megin) of Plympton; Matthew Benassi (Maatje) of Lompoc, California; Katharine Botzos (Michael) of Duxbury; and Alison Floeck of East Bridgewater; and the late Kevin Joseph Benassi. He was a cherished grandfather of Andrea, Samantha, Rachael, Dominic, Joseph, Nicholas, Anika, Josef, Mathias, and Koen, and a great-grandfather of Amelia, William, and Thiago. He is also survived by his sister Judith Heppleston of Carver.
Visiting hours will be held at Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, North Plymouth (Near Cordage Park) on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Mary's Church, 313 Court Street, North Plymouth, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Kingston.
Memorial donations in Howard's name may be made to the Kevin Benassi Memorial Scholarship at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
