FONSECA, Eleanor May (McSherry), age 91 years, died Friday, January 2, 2026 at Bay Path Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Duxbury. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1934 to George Roger Francis McSherry and Lillian May (Dixon) McSherry, Eleanor was a graduate of Kingston High School and Fisher Junior College in Boston. She worked as a secretary for the Cordage Company in Plymouth and the law firm of Ropes and Gray in Boston, Eleanor enjoyed reading and spending as much time as possible at her cottage on Saquish Beach.


She is survived by her siblings, George McSherry of Naples, Florida and Carole McSherry of Kingston as well as her daughter Cathleen (Fonseca) Ferguson and her husband Douglas of Plympton, her grandchildren Julianne Ferguson of Plympton, Daniel Ferguson and his wife Emily of Middleboro, Jacob Ferguson of Middleboro, and her nephew John Edward McSherry of Maine and Florida. Eleanor was predeceased by her sons Joseph Fonseca and Joseph Robert "Jay" Fonseca, Jr., her sister Marjorie Benassi and her brother John A. McSherry.


Visitation with the Fonseca family will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 10:00AM – 12:00PM. In lieu of flowers, Eleanor's wish was to have donations made to Kingston Library, 6 Green Street, Kingston, MA 02364.
