The Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter is inviting residents from Plymouth and surrounding communities to take part in the South Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Nelson Memorial Park in Plymouth.
This year’s event aims to raise $497,000 to advance the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission of supporting critical care, support and research efforts. More than 650 participants and 145 teams have already registered, with more expected to join ahead of Walk day. The South Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s is one of nine Walks taking place across Massachusetts this fall, uniting communities statewide in the fight to end this disease.
“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. With new treatments and proven lifestyle habits that support brain health, there is real hope," said Ginny Hanbridge, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter. "Together, we can build a brain‑healthy future and help end this disease. We invite everyone to join us by forming a team to raise awareness and funds for families facing Alzheimer’s today.”
On Walk day, participants will honor those affected by Alzheimer’s during the Promise Garden ceremony, a mission-focused experience that demonstrates solidarity in the fight against the disease. Walkers will carry flowers in different colors, with each color representing a personal connection to Alzheimer’s.
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, nearly 13 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Massachusetts, an estimated 135,200 people age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s, while 220,000 caregivers provide unpaid care. In 2025, Massachusetts caregivers provided an estimated 254 million hours of unpaid care, valued at $6.7 billion.
