POV: Junior Reporters Review Starland's New Rides

South Shore Times’ junior reporters take on the newest rides at Starland — the Frog Jump, Drop Tower, and Spin Coaster.

On a very hot and sunny Monday afternoon, I took two of the South Shore Times’ junior reporters to get their take on the three brand new attractions that just opened at Hanover’s Starland Sportsplex & Fun Park. Starland opened up three new exciting outdoor attractions for visitors of all ages- the Frog Jump, the Drop Tower, and the Spin Coaster.

Thrilled to be some of the first South Shore kids enjoying these new rides, our junior reporters took their jobs very seriously, riding each attraction multiple times in order to provide a thorough review. Though these junior reporters are admittedly my children, I promise their reviews are wholly their own.

Frog Jump Perfect for Little Visitors

Younger brothers and sisters- your time has come! This hopping Frog Jump ride is perfect for Starland’s smallest visitors. Riders must be 36” to ride solo, but can ride with their adult if they are at least 1 year old. Steady, up-and-down jumps make this an exciting ride for toddlers and preschoolers!

Junior Reporter Maeve said, “It was fun. It would be good for like little kids. They would enjoy it because it goes up and down and it’s not too fast.”

No Terror in this Drop Tower

With multiple raises and drops, twists and turns, Starland’s new Drop Tower is thrill-seeker approved. If you are a fan of belly flopping fun, this is the ride for you.

The Drop Tower got rave reviews from both junior reporters with Marshall saying, “my favorite thing about it was that you went up and down and it’s turning around a lot and you go really fast.”

Swirls and Twirls on the Spin Coaster

The new Spin Coaster twists and turns in a figure 8 for (what felt like to me!) a very long time. Unlike traditional roller coasters, the Spin Coaster adds some very tea-cup-like spins to the ride providing a super fun, and slightly dizzying, update to the ride.

Junior reporter Maeve said, “I really liked it. I liked how we were spinning around the whole time and it was really fun,” and junior reporter Marshall agreed it was fun and said, “my friends would really, really like it because they would like the spinning and it's fast.”

Old Favorites Still Here for Your Next Adventure

From real-life Mario Kart-style Go-Karts to bumper cars, the rock wall, and mini-golf, the classic attractions at Starland are still here for you. Despite being the only licensed driver in my group, I came in a dismal 3rd (of 3!) in my family's Go-Kart race. Even though I might be picked last for Go-Karts (and probably laser tag), I can redeem myself slightly with a pretty impressive free-throw arcade score.

The Starland you have known and loved since the 1960s got even better this summer with the addition of these new attractions. With adventures for visitors of all ages, there really is something for everyone at Starland.

And if you're looking to soak up even more summer fun, don't miss Starland’s Sunset Rides & Outdoor Movie Night, a perfect evening combo of thrills and chill. Start with discounted access to rides and attractions as the sun sets, then cozy up on the lawn with your beach chairs and blankets for a magical outdoor screening of Disney & Pixar’s Inside Out 2. Movie tickets are just $5, and concessions, popcorn, and drinks will be available on-site. With a scenic sunset backdrop and a family-friendly vibe, it’s an unforgettable way to spend a summer night under the stars.

My junior reporters are already planning their next trip to Starland, with one of them begging to go back to the Rec Program. Thankfully it runs until September 2nd so I might be able to make that dream come true!
