Kids who love to perform, create and imagine can spend their summer singing, acting, painting and making new friends at the Academy of the Company Theatre’s annual summer workshops.
Running from June 22 through July 10, the program offers more than 70 performing and visual arts classes for students of all ages, culminating in a community arts showcase on July 11.
Classes cover a wide range of creative interests, including acting, singing, dance, media arts, painting, photography, playwriting, stage combat, technical theatre and culinary arts.
The workshops are designed to feel just as social as they are creative, with themed activities, talent shows and special events woven throughout the three-week program.
The first week of workshops runs from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., while the final two weeks shift to daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Evening sessions feature outdoor activities like marshmallow roasting and fireside singalongs, creating a summer camp atmosphere that keeps students returning year after year.
Theme days add even more energy to the program, with activities tied to events like Crazy Hat Day, Superhero Day, Mardi Gras Day, Halloween Day and Make a New Friend Day.
In addition to new skills in acting, music and art, students gain something less tangible but just as meaningful: friendship, confidence and community.
Younger children can join the fun through ACT Junior, a two-week morning program for ages 5 through 7.
The program introduces campers to dance, music, drama and visual art through hands-on activities designed specifically for younger learners.
Many instructors and returning students have been part of the workshops for years, helping create the close-knit atmosphere the program is known for.
The summer workshops have become a tradition for many South Shore families, drawing students back each year to explore new creative interests, reconnect with friends and perform on stage.
