Join the Town of Cohasset’s Open Space & Recreation Committee (OSRC) for the 8th Annual Town-Wide Clean-Up to celebrate Earth Day, a global day intended to inspire appreciation for Earth’s natural environment and restore its ecosystems. The Clean-Up on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Cohasset Town Hall is part of the effort to remove millions of pounds of non-biodegradable, single-use trash and debris that clog our parks, shorelines, and neighborhoods. The global 2026 Earth Day theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.”

“By bringing the community together for this event, we remind the citizens of Cohasset that we all have a responsibility to take care of our natural environment,” says Virginia LeClair, Chairman of the OSRC. “The Clean-Up attracts teens to seniors who pick up trash from North Main Street to Government Island, making the town a brighter, greener place to live. Since 2019, Cohasset has picked up over 12,000 pieces of trash.”

Sign up at Town Hall to take part in this year's Clean Up. Upon arrival, participants of all ages will be assigned to different work locations or may choose their preferred site. Everyone will receive a trash bag to get started.

Tips for Clean Up Day:

1.    Choose a safe location to clean, such as your neighborhood, favorite trail, or boating area. Clean up during daylight hours, in suitable weather.

2.    Use the provided trash bag, wear gloves, and protective clothing.

3.    Include the kids and make it fun. Create a scavenger hunt to find different types of trash, like a coffee cup, or a competition to see who can collect 10 cans the fastest.

The OSRC invites all residents to take an active role in preserving Cohasset’s natural resources and recreational spaces. By coming together for this Clean-Up Day, we demonstrate our shared commitment to sustaining and enhancing the environment that makes our town a special place to live.
