Co-op Swim/Dive Team Makes History with Landmark Victory

Marshfield/Hanover Girls Swim Team Captures First Patriot League Championship Title in Over 30 Years

The Marshfield/Hanover High School Girls Swim and Dive team made history this past weekend, clinching their first-ever Patriot League Championship Meet victory at the Lincoln Hancock School in Quincy. Their triumph marks the first time in over 30 years that a team other than Duxbury has won both the dual meet and the championship meet, cementing Marshfield/Hanover as the new dominant force in the league.

The team capped off its second consecutive undefeated season by outscoring their closest competition, Scituate, by 36 points. Their depth and consistency throughout the season proved key to securing the title.

Head Coach Barb Toohey expressed pride in the team’s achievements, noting that their success was a result of collective effort. “You all represented your school, your towns, and your teams well and should be very proud. This is quite an accomplishment achieved by a true team effort,” she said. “Continuing as we did during the dual meet season, it was our depth that resulted in the win.”

Standout performances included Audrey Hannigan’s double win in the 200 IM and 100 Free, as well as a first-place finish by Grace Gilligan in the 1-meter diving event. Other key contributors included Georgia Pearson, McKenzie Gezotis, Molly Beston, Anaya Allen, Cara McDonough, Kora O’Donnell, Addy Rhodes, Maggie McGonagle, Rose Lydiard, Siena Oliver, and Claudia Richards, all of whom scored vital points for the team.

Marshfield/Hanover Boys Finish Third in League

On the boys’ side, the Marshfield/Hanover team delivered a strong performance, finishing third in both the league and the championship meet. Duxbury continued its dominance, securing another league title, while Scituate edged Marshfield/Hanover by just four points for second place.

The boys’ team had standout performances from Captain Aidan Parry, who won the 100 Breaststroke and placed fourth in the 200 IM, and Dean Gomes, who finished second in the 100 Free while qualifying for the South Sectional meet. Sean Lawlor also qualified for Sectionals in the 500 Free, cutting 17 seconds off his previous best. Max Coakley placed third in 1-meter diving, while Cameron Wong secured a third-place finish in the 100 Backstroke.

Coach Toohey commended the boys for their resilience and improvement throughout the season. “The team pushed themselves to the limit, and it showed in their performances,” she said. “They should be incredibly proud of their work.”

Marshfield/Hanover’s historic season is a testament to their dedication and teamwork, and with strong performances across the board, the future looks bright for the co-op program. As the team celebrates this milestone, they set their sights on furthering their legacy in the seasons to come.
