The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars.
The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
WHAT TO PREPARE: Youth Auditions begin at 1:00PM Any young actors interested in the roles of Friedrich, Luisa, Kurt, Brigatta, Marta, or Gretl should attend the youth auditions starting at 1:00PM.
A song from the show will be taught to you by the music director, then you will sing alone for the casting team. We may have you read a few lines as well, if time permits. No need to prepare anything in advance for youth auditions.
Auditions for all adult roles (including Liesl and Rolfe) begin at 2:30PM Please prepare 30 seconds of a song from the show (or in a similar style) to sing for your audition. If singing a song not from the show, bring a copy of your sheet music for the accompanist with starting & stopping points clearly marked.
