West Yarmouth Man Arrested After Early Morning Crash in Cohasset

A 34-year-old man from West Yarmouth was arrested early Monday morning following a single-vehicle crash that caused significant damage on North Main Street near Ripley Road. The incident resulted in the closure of a stretch of the road into the afternoon as crews worked to repair a snapped utility pole.

Police and fire units responded to the scene around 4:30 AM after receiving reports of a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder that had collided with a utility pole. Upon arrival, first responders found the heavily damaged SUV abandoned, with the driver nowhere in sight.

According to a statement by the Cohasset Police Department posted on Facebook, due to the severity of the crash, Cohasset K9 "Einstein" was deployed to assist in locating the vehicle's operator. Officers discovered the driver, identified as Christian W. Chapman, near North Main Street and Rocky Lane at approximately 4:45 AM.

Following a brief investigation, Chapman was arrested by Cohasset police and charged with several offenses, including Operating Under the Influence (OUI) – drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash, speeding, and failure to drive in marked lanes.

The Pathfinder was declared totaled in the collision, and utility companies worked throughout the day to replace the damaged pole. North Main Street remained closed between Jerusalem Road and Ripley Road until Monday afternoon.

Police confirmed that Chapman refused medical treatment at the scene. Further details about the incident or potential court appearances have not been released.
