Two South Shore businesses have received state grants from the Massachusetts Manufacturing Accelerator Program to grow and modernize their manufacturing: Hanover’s Rustic Marlin and Pembroke’s Sunrise Systems.

The program is designed to benefit small- and mid-size manufacturers with both money and guidance from collaborating nonprofits.

Sunrise Systems, an electronics manufacturer that makes LED signage and passenger information systems for use in transportation industries, will use its $100,000 grant to purchase “high-speed pick and place machine, updated screen printer, reflow oven, conveyors, and a dedicated clean room build-out,” according to the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, which helped fund the grants.

Rustic Marlin, which designs and creates home decor, will receive $235,580. The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative said that it will purchase “an automated conveyor, an automatic branding station, and a jig-free conveyor UV printer.”

"Massachusetts has a rich manufacturing heritage, and we're proud to be part of its future," said co-founder Melanie O’Neil. "As we look ahead to America's 250th anniversary and beyond, we're committed to showing that American manufacturing remains a powerful driver of innovation, entrepreneurship and community growth."

Both companies will work with consulting company Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership “to determine the most critical use of grant funding and to support budget development and management.”

“Through programs like MMAP, we're helping manufacturers invest in new technology, strengthen their workforce and expand their operations so they can grow and compete,” Governor Maura Healey said in a statement. “This updated program gives companies access to the tools, expertise and resources they need to create jobs and succeed right here in Massachusetts.”
