QUINCY – The Quincy College Foundation has been selected as one of 150 nonprofits to receive funding through Cummings Foundation’s annual grant program, which awarded $35 million this year. Chosen through a competitive review process that drew a record 959 applicants, the Quincy-based organization will receive $225,000 over three years.
The grant will support Quincy College students pursuing careers in nursing and allied health fields by providing scholarships and wraparound services designed to help them complete their programs, graduate and launch successful careers in healthcare.
“This grant represents a meaningful investment in our students and the future healthcare workforce of our region,” said Dr. Richard DeCristofaro, President of Quincy College. “Many of our students are balancing rigorous academic programs with work, family responsibilities and significant financial challenges. This funding will help ensure that talented and hardworking students can stay on track to complete their program and step into critical healthcare roles that are in high demand throughout our communities.”
More than 80 percent of Quincy College students receive some form of financial aid. Financial hardship remains one of the primary reasons students are forced to delay or discontinue their education. The need is especially acute among students enrolled in the College’s highly selective healthcare programs, including Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology and Surgical Technology programs.
Healthcare remains one of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy, and Massachusetts continues to face shortages of qualified healthcare professionals. “We are deeply grateful to the Cummings Foundation for this generous support,” said Kara Bobrov, Director of Institutional Advancement at Quincy College. “By helping students complete their education and enter the workforce, the grant will support both economic mobility and the healthcare needs of our region.”
The Quincy College Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Quincy College, dedicated to removing barriers to higher education and creating opportunities for student success.
