State Senator Patrick M. O’Connor (R-Weymouth) had the opportunity to visit and tour Massa, located at 280 Lincoln Street in Hingham on Monday, October 26. Senator O’Connor nominated Massa for this award as part of the 11th Annual Manufacturing Awards, hosted by hosted by the administration and the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM), a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech.) The Senator and his team were able to see firsthand why Massa is at the forefront of industry in terms of design and engineering. Massa manufactures high-performance acoustic sensing solutions for military, industrial, and oceanographic applications.
“Massa is a tremendous example of the innovation, craftsmanship, and dedication that make Massachusetts manufacturing so strong” said State Senator Patrick M. O’Connor (R-Weymouth.) For decades, this family-owned company has been at the forefront of its industry, developing cutting-edge technology while maintaining deep roots within the Hingham community. I was proud to nominate Massa for this award and recognize its contributions to our local economy and to our nation’s defense.”
Massa designs and manufactures “off the shelf” MassaSonic or OEM sonar and ultrasonic products for use in the ocean, air, and fluids. Massa fabricates all its products with the same quality used in the sonar that it builds for the military. This is the only company of its nature that remains family owned and has had continuity in the field since the start of the industry. With over 170 US Patents awarded, Massa has become an industry leader and trusted partner of the US Navy.
A third-generation family owned and operated business that has been operated out of Hingham for 76 years and opened for 81, late founder Frank Massa has engrained the idea of quality and customer service into their model of business. Frank Massa is one of the original founders of the field of electroacoustics, converting electrical energy into acoustic energy, or the other way around. He developed the sonars used in World War II. This success has been long-lasting, and in addition, Massa has been a staunch partner within the South Shore community.
