The Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield is expanding its leadership team with two new hires aimed at strengthening operations and deepening its impact across the South Shore. Julie Kennedy has been named Director of Operations, while Brendan Casey joins as Director of Impact and Business Development. Both stepped into their roles this April as the organization looks to build on its growth and better serve the more than 500 families who rely on its programs.
The additions come at a time when the club is continuing to evolve its programming, partnerships and long-term strategy, particularly in areas such as youth development, licensed childcare and workforce readiness.
Kennedy brings more than two decades of nonprofit leadership experience, most recently serving as executive director of the Old Colony YMCA in Middleboro, where she oversaw a multimillion-dollar operation and led major fundraising and community engagement efforts.
In her new role, she will oversee day-to-day operations across the organization, including programs, staffing, budgeting and partnerships, while helping translate the club’s broader vision into systems that support growth.
“I’ve spent my career building programs that respond to what families actually need,” Kennedy said. “What drew me here is the chance to strengthen systems behind the scenes so staff can do their best work and kids have consistent, high-quality experiences every day.”
“This role is about connecting the mission to how the organization runs day to day,” she added. “If we get the operations right, it creates more opportunities for growth and for serving more families.”
Casey brings a background in program operations and youth development, most recently serving as associate director of program operations for The Clubhouse Network, where he helped support a global network of more than 160 sites.
His experience also includes more than a decade with the South Shore YMCA, where he managed large-scale youth programs and led teams serving hundreds of children each summer.
As Director of Impact and Business Development, Casey will focus on measuring program effectiveness while also expanding partnerships, fundraising and community engagement efforts.
“For me, impact means being able to point to real outcomes for kids and say this is working,” Casey said. “It’s making sure we are not just offering programs, but understanding how they’re helping young people grow, stay engaged and succeed.”
“There is also a big opportunity to build partnerships and bring more resources into the organization,” he added. “That combination of measuring impact and expanding support is what helps a place like this reach more families.”
The position reflects a growing trend in the nonprofit sector toward prioritizing measurable impact alongside program delivery, ensuring that resources are aligned with results. Chief Executive Officer Jim Bunnell said the hires represent a significant step forward for the organization as it continues to grow its reach and services.
“These are roles that help us be more intentional about how we grow,” Bunnell said. “Julie brings the operational leadership to support our staff and programs, and Brendan brings a focus on outcomes and partnerships that will strengthen our impact.”
“As we continue to expand, having the right people in place is what allows us to stay true to our mission while reaching more kids across the South Shore,” he added.
Founded in 1999, the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield has grown into a regional hub for youth programming, offering after-school care, sports, arts and leadership development for children ages 5 to 18. The organization has steadily expanded its facilities and services over the years, including the addition of outdoor recreation spaces and plans for future partnerships with the town. With the new leadership in place, the club is positioning itself to continue that growth while maintaining its focus on providing a safe, inclusive environment for young people.
