Human remains discovered near Route 3 in Plymouth earlier this year have been identified as Sandra Crispo, a Hanson woman who disappeared nearly six years ago, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Hanson Police Chief Michael Casey.

Authorities said a hunter discovered what appeared to be human remains March 6 in a deer trail near the breakdown lane between exits 13 and 14 on Route 3 North in Plymouth. Massachusetts State Police responded to the wooded area and located part of a human skull, which was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office later contacted the FBI for additional testing. Officials said the FBI determined the skull was a CODIS match to Crispo’s DNA through one of the agency’s forensic DNA databases.

Crispo was 54 years old when she was last seen Aug. 7, 2019. She lived in Hanson and was reported missing Aug. 9, 2019, after family members could not reach her and found she was not inside her home.

Since her disappearance, Hanson Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and other law enforcement agencies have continued investigating the case.

“That investigation has included searches, interviews, forensic testing, reviews of records, and other investigative efforts,” officials said in the release.

Authorities said the investigation into Crispo’s disappearance remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Hanson Police at 781-293-4625 or Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office at 508-894-2600.
