Hingham Police are searching for a driver involved in an apparent road rage incident that ended with gunfire outside the Hingham Public Library Thursday afternoon.
No one was shot, and police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Officers responded to the library parking lot at 66 Leavitt St. at 4:22 p.m. Thursday, July 23, following reports of shots fired during a confrontation involving people in two vehicles, according to the Hingham Police Department.
A preliminary investigation found that a passenger in one of the vehicles fired a gun in the library parking lot during the confrontation. Police recovered the firearm at the scene.
The person who fired the weapon suffered an injury during the incident and was taken to a hospital. Police stressed that the injury was not caused by gunfire and was not considered life-threatening.
Police said the individual has a license to carry a firearm. His name has not been released.
The driver of the other vehicle left before officers arrived and had not been located as of Thursday night.
As of Thursday night, no arrests had been announced. Police told WBZ that charges were expected as the investigation continues.
Hingham Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the confrontation and are working to locate the second driver.
