Hanover Approves Override, Elects New Officials in Town Election

$3.7M tax levy override passes with a landslide of support

Hanover voters approved a $3.7 million override in a landslide win and elected new officials in Saturday's annual town election.

The levy limit override passed decisively with 3,118 votes in favor and 2,065 against (a 60% to 40% margin), allowing the town to collect an additional $3.7 million in property taxes for the fiscal year beginning July 1. This strong approval comes after voters rejected a larger $6 million override proposal last year.

In the Select Board race, Rachel Hughes defeated Nicholas Spolsino by a margin of 2,957 to 2,094 votes. The win comes after residents received a wave a mailers earlier in the week from the Massachusetts Republic Party attacking Hughes.

Christopher Tracy won decisively in the School Committee contest, receiving 3,268 votes compared to Andrea Hammett's 1,436.

One of the closer races was for Trustee of the Public Library, where Steven Henderson narrowly defeated incumbent Tammy Tedeschi by just 157 votes (2,314 to 2,157).

All other positions on the ballot were uncontested.
