COHASSET - Cohasset leadership looking to fill key board and committee openings that are critical to maintaining town operations.
Ellen Maher, Chair, opened the discussion by noting that a detailed chart of committee positions, expiring terms, and submitted applications had been distributed to members. While the town does not actively recruit, members were encouraged to promote civic engagement in their own circles.
“Our town runs on volunteers and all of these boards and committees are very important to the smooth operations of the town,” said Maher. “There’s something for everyone that can pique anyone’s interests.”
Town staff confirmed that outreach to current committee members whose terms are ending had already taken place.
Regarding the procedure for reappointments and how best to avoid confusion, Maher said, “I think it’s only proper that people who want to return notify you, us, whatever—that they want to return, whether it’s the full application or just an email,” referencing issues from the previous year with the Open Space and Recreation Committee.
Staff also noted that despite some verbal expressions of interest, many roles remain unfilled, and the town will begin making calls to encourage applicants.
Board members acknowledged that filling these roles can be difficult but vital.
“I just like everyone, as you’re out and about in your own circles... we need volunteers for all of this,” Maher concluded.
