The Marshfield High School wrestling team continues to show growth and resilience, securing a dominant 60-18 win over Whitman-Hanson in their latest Patriot League matchup.
The Rams improved to 19-7 on the season and 2-2 in league competition. Pins were earned by Stephen Minehan (113), Bret Foley (120), Will Coyle (126), Liam Dillon (150), and heavyweight Ryan Kennedy. Additional victories came from Christian Devlin (132), Dave Sheehan (157), Cam Robinson (165), Allan Archibald (175), Jack Teeple (190), and Aidan Palombo (215). Head Coach Matt Pomella, now in his 16th season leading the program, praised the team’s progress.
“This team continues to work hard and improve every time we step on the mat. Their dedication is showing in the results,” he said. “The culture of our program is built on relentless attacks and supporting each other. I’m proud of what these athletes are accomplishing.”
Senior standout Paul Sheehan, a three-year varsity wrestler with 86 career wins, credited the team’s strong practice environment. “We push each other every day in practice, and it’s paying off in these matches,” he said. “It’s great to see our team coming together.”
His fellow senior David Sheehan, echoed the sentiment. “Our depth and toughness are helping us win these tough dual meets. Everyone is stepping up,” he added. Beyond the high school level, Marshfield’s youth wrestling program is also making waves.
The Marshfield Boys & Girls Club wrestling team recently competed in the Duxbury Warzone, where six young wrestlers combined for 25 matches. Standout performances included Zachary Cooper (4-1, 1 pin), Jaxon Kane (3-2, 2 pins), and Lucas Pomella (4-2, 4 pins).
Coach Pomella emphasized the importance of the growing youth program. “Seeing our youth wrestlers competing and gaining experience at events like the Duxbury Warzone is just as exciting as our high school team’s success,” he said. “The program is growing at all levels.”
With Senior Night against Hingham approaching on February 5th and postseason competition on the horizon, the Rams are focused on finishing the season strong.
“Senior Night is going to be special, but we’re not done yet,” said senior Logan Murray. “We have more work to do and bigger goals ahead.”
