It’s a South Shore showdown for the state title.
Top-seeded Cohasset and third-seeded Norwell will face off in the MIAA Division 4 Girls Lacrosse State Championship tonight, Thursday, June 12 at 5 p.m. at Babson College, setting the stage for a battle between two of the region’s most successful programs.
Cohasset earned its second straight trip to the championship game after a commanding 19-11 semifinal win over Sandwich. The Skippers held a tight 11-8 lead at halftime before pulling away with a deep bench of multi-goal scorers and relentless pressure on both ends of the field.
Leading Cohasset from the sidelines is Kara Connerty, a familiar figure to Norwell fans. The longtime coach previously led the Clippers’ girls lacrosse and soccer programs before taking the reins in Cohasset, where she has continued her tradition of excellence. Connerty has guided teams to to the championship before over her career and now looks to add another — this time, against the very program she once built.
Norwell, meanwhile, advanced with a dominant 16-1 performance against Ipswich. Charlise Cox and Holly Panttila each scored four goals, while goalie Charlotte Pithie notched five saves to lead a defensive unit that shut down Ipswich’s attack. The Clippers enter the final with momentum and a chip on their shoulder, eager to reclaim the championship spotlight.
