BC High Recognizes Five Outstanding South Shore Alumni Athletes

Five South Shore alumni were honored for athletic excellence, leadership, and lifelong service to their communities.

Boston College High School celebrated five distinguished alumni and South Shore residents during its 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held Nov. 25 on the school’s Dorchester campus. The event brought together families, alumni, and school leaders to honor athletes whose achievements represent some of the strongest eras in BC High sports history.

The ceremony recognized individuals whose excellence extends far beyond their years as student-athletes. This year’s inductees include Jordan Virtue ’02, Tim Smith ’07, Ryan Morgan ’01, and Jason Delaney ’01, P’31. AJ Kardoos ’90 was honored with the James E. Cotter ‘55 Courage Award. 

Each honoree shares strong ties to the South Shore and has carried forward the values of leadership, sportsmanship, and service learned at BC High.

AJ Kardoos

AJ Kardoos ’90: Recognized for Courage

Kardoos  was awarded the James E. Cotter ’55 Courage Award. A multisport athlete during his school years, he competed in skiing, wrestling, and golf, developing a reputation for resilience and humility. Following graduation, he served as a U.S. Navy SEAL before joining the Massachusetts State Police. His career in public service, marked by personal sacrifice and unwavering commitment to protecting others, shaped the foundation for this year’s courage award. His recognition reflects a lifetime rooted in service to his community and devotion to his family. Kardoos lives in Hingham. You can watch his celebration video here.

Jordan Virtue

Jordan Virtue ’02: A Leader On and Off the Ice

Virtue was honored for his key role in one of BC High’s most competitive hockey eras. As a varsity standout, he helped guide the Eagles to three consecutive Super Eight final appearances and led the 2002 team to a championship. He continued his hockey career at UMass Amherst. After graduating, Virtue returned to BC High as a coach for more than a decade, mentoring young players and contributing to additional championship seasons. Virtue remains involved in South Shore youth athletics as a hockey coach for the Baystate Breakers, continuing the legacy he helped build on the ice. Tim Smith

Tim Smith ’07: A Three-Sport Standout

Smith earned induction as one of the school’s most versatile athletes. Competing in football, indoor track, and baseball, he anchored successful teams throughout the mid-2000s. He contributed to state relay titles in track, played a central role on the offensive line in football, and helped lead one of BC High’s strongest baseball eras. Smith continued his athletic career at Bentley University before entering the life sciences field, carrying with him the leadership and teamwork values that shaped his years at BC High. Ryan Morgan

Ryan Morgan ’01: A South Shore Leader in Local Baseball Legacy

Morgan was honored for his lasting impact on BC High baseball. He was a three-time Catholic Conference all-star, a two-year captain, and a driving force behind the Eagles’ 2001 state championship run, earning state tournament MVP honors. His baseball journey advanced to Boston College and later to the Chicago Cubs organization. Today, he remains active in regional businesses and charitable causes, extending his commitment to teamwork and service to organizations like the Pete Frates Foundation and the Dana-Farber Cancer Foundation. Jason Delaney

Jason Delaney ’01 P’31: Champion and Community Contributor

Delaney joined the Hall of Fame as one of BC High’s most decorated baseball players. As captain of the 2001 state championship team, he helped deliver a defining season for BC High athletics. He went on to become one of Boston College’s leading baseball talents before beginning a six-year professional career that included time with both the Pirates and the Florida Marlins organizations. Delaney has been recognized for both athletic accomplishments and community leadership, earning the Community Leader Award given in conjunction with Major League Baseball's Roberto Clemente Award. In 2022, he was honored once again when he was inducted into the Boston College Athletic Hall of Fame. His family’s connection to BC High continues today through his son. Whether through coaching, public service, business leadership, or mentorship, each inductee has carried forward the lessons learned on Morrissey Boulevard. Their legacies highlight a shared commitment to excellence and a lasting bond with the South Shore.
