It’s election season in Hanover, and I am encouraged and optimistic about the fresh new faces running for elected office this year: Jim Hoyes for Select Board, Hanley Scott for School Committee, and Jason Factor for Board of Assessors.
Many of us already know Jim Hoyes from his many years of service on the Advisory Committee and, most recently, as our town’s Budget Director. He brings invaluable knowledge of our budget and town finances to the Select Board. I appreciate his methodical approach to problem-solving and his ability to quantify the pros and cons of multiple solutions and scenarios. Thoughtful and proactive, Jim will complement the existing board with new perspectives, good-natured collaboration, and a sense of humor.
Hanley Scott brings a truly unique perspective to her run for School Committee. As a single mom and single-income homeowner, affordability AND good schools are high on her priority list. As a longtime Operations Manager for a local specialty foods importer, she will bring professional analytical, financial, communication, and management skills to our town government as a volunteer. I have been impressed with Hanley’s frequent and thoughtful engagements with the Select Board in understanding and questioning how town government works, and her appreciation for everyone who makes Hanover Public Schools the quality district it is. Hanley is a problem solver, and everyone who knows her can attest that she’s always the first one up, innovating solutions and advocating for those who need a voice.
Jason Factor embodies enthusiasm and a “can-do” mindset. As a parent, coach, and member of the Executive Board of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce, Jason is well-connected with members of our community and embodies a vision for making Hanover a better place to live. His knowledge of real estate, business, and mortgage lending will be an asset to the Board of Assessors, and he has years of experience in property valuation. Jason wants to find creative ways to strike a balance among supporting our businesses, supporting our residents in need, and promoting smart development and affordability strategies for the best of everyone in Hanover. And, he’s a super likable guy!
Hanover’s future is bright. I wish all the candidates the best and look forward to working together!
