News Staff

James J. Sage, of Hanover, formerly of the Merrymount section of Quincy, died at home on April 14, 2026 at the age of 83, after living courageously with pulmonary disease for several years.

Jimmy enjoyed a long career in the auto repair service. He opened his first business, Sage’s Exxon, in Quincy in 1974 and later opened S & W Automotive, a Quincy institution on Quarry Street where he remained for many years. Jimmy treated his customers like friends. He was a loyal and trusting friend to many with a natural gift of gab. In retirement, Jimmy enjoyed traveling with his wife, Susan. In recent years as his health slowed him down, Jimmy kept a positive attitude. He was content being at home with his family and watching the hummingbirds through the window. He was a longtime member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks, a music fan with varied tastes, and he enjoyed classic Hollywood musicals.

Son of the late Catherine (Keegan) Sage and the late James J. Sage. Beloved husband of Susan M. (McGrath) Sage of Hanover. Loving father of Rebecca Glancy and her husband David of Scituate, Allison Lamie and her husband Mark of Weymouth and Shannon Donovan and her Husband Andrew of Weymouth. Brother of Mary Simmons of Quincy, Martha Donahue of Bridgewater, and the late Bernice Walsh. He was the proud “Pop” to Jason Lamie, William Lamie, Maeve Glancy, Lily Donovan and Anna Donovan whom he loved very much. Also survived by his former wife Barbara Bonfiglioli, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday 4/20/2026 from 3-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Tuesday 4/21/2026 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, Hanover at 10 AM. Burial in Hanover Center Cemetery, Hanover.

In gratitude for the care provided, donations in memory of Jimmy may be made to Croi Health (formerly NVNA and Hospice), 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
