Catherine Margaret Catherine "Kathy" O'Brien Bradley, a relentlessly devoted mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at the age of 85, following complications from a medical procedure. Kathy was born on November 27, 1940, to Joseph and Catherine (Shevlin) O'Brien in Scranton, PA, and the family later moved to Northeast Washington, D.C. When she was just nine years old, her father passed away, leaving her mother to raise her and her three brothers. This hardscrabble upbringing led her to become both fiercely independent and loyal to her family and friends. Following the completion of her education, Kathy worked as an assistant to Massachusetts Congressman Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill. One of her indelible memories was sharing a long cry with Congressman O'Neill and his wife, Millie, following the assassination of President Kennedy. While working in Washington, D.C., she met John Bradley Sr., a law student from Boston, MA, who worked part-time as a Capitol Police officer. They later married, had two sons, John and Brendan, and settled in Cohasset, MA. Kathy was a devoted mother, never missing a sporting event that involved her sons - baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, tennis - she was present for them all. After her marriage ended in 1980, she lovingly raised her sons as a single mom, as her own mother had done. She went back to work, approaching her jobs at Frankly Faux and GID, both in Boston, with her hallmark zeal and passion. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy, from casual visits to holiday celebrations. In addition, she loved her adopted hometown of Cohasset, where she lived for 50 years. She adored the ocean and the town's two beaches, Sandy and Rocky, where she spent hours reading, walking, and spending time with family. Kathy was an avid tennis player and a member of the Cohasset Tennis Club for many years. She truly enjoyed her friends, all of whom meant so much to her. She also loved football and was a diehard fan of the Patriots, never missing a game on TV, and was ecstatic about their resurgent trip to the Super Bowl this year. Kathy welcomed the opportunity to dance and always, no matter the occasion, had the perfect outfit, from shoes to jewelry. She had a passion for decorating and was a taskmaster in all that she did. While she enjoyed fine dining, her favorite simple pleasures were a pizza from Cohasset House of Pizza and an ice cream from JJ's Dairy Hut. Kathy is survived by her sons, John (Lisa) and Brendan (Kerry Ann), both of Boston, along with her five grandchildren, Sean, Conor, Lillian, Michael, and Jeremy, all of whom brought her endless pride and joy. She was predeceased by her former husband, John; her brothers, Robert, Joseph, and William; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Michele Blaney Bradley. In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Cohasset's Sandy Beach Association.
