South Shore Health, in collaboration with MassHire South Shore and the School to Careers Partnership, recently organized two career exploration events at Marshfield and Holbrook High Schools. These events attracted over 200 students, teachers, and administrators from Blue Hills, Holbrook, MAP Academy, Marshfield, Rockland, and Scituate High Schools, aiming to showcase the diverse career opportunities and educational pathways in the healthcare sector.
Students responded positively, expressing surprise at the variety of healthcare careers available, many of which do not require extensive education or direct patient interaction. One student noted, "I never knew how many healthcare career options there are to choose from. Also, not all need to be hands on and touching patients." Another remarked, "I always thought that all healthcare positions took years of education and training, but many can be learned within a short period of time."
The events featured professionals from various departments, including Clinical Nutrition, Nursing, Radiology, and Pharmacy, as well as representatives from eight area colleges. They provided firsthand insights and shared their experiences with students, inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals. South Shore Health said it plans to host additional events in the region during the spring semester of the 2024-2025 school year.
These initiatives are part of South Shore Health's ongoing efforts to engage with the community and promote healthcare careers among local youth.
