HINGHAM, MA - Friendship Home is proud to announce the launch of Take the Stage 2026, a community-driven contest giving one lucky local musician or band the chance to perform at the 6th Annual River Rock Music Festival. The contest kicks off June 1 on Friendship Home’s Instagram and Facebook pages, with nominations closing July 1 and the winning act announced on July 8.
The 6th Annual River Rock Music Festival returns to the scenic Weir River Farm in Hingham, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 12. Set against rolling pastures and sweeping views of the Boston skyline, River Rock has become one of Friendship Home’s most beloved annual traditions, raising over $242,000 since its inception to support the organization’s mission of enriching the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
Take the Stage is simple: starting June 1, community members are invited to head to Friendship Home’s Instagram or Facebook page, find the Take the Stage post, and drop a comment tagging their favorite local musician or band. Musicians are also welcome to nominate themselves. The winning act will earn the final performance slot in front of more than 600 festival-goers this fall.
The contest builds on remarkable community engagement. Last year’s Take the Stage drew over 75 band nominations, more than 170 comments, and reached more than 5,000 people from Massachusetts to California, a response so extraordinary that the selection committee chose two finalists.
“The response to Take The Stage has been phenomenal,” said Steve Lombardo, co-founder of River Rock. “It’s exciting to see so many bands vying for the final spot in this year’s River Rock Festival lineup. We’re amazed by the talent and enthusiasm of the performers, and truly grateful for the overwhelming support from our community and the Friendship Home team.”
Beyond the stage competition, River Rock promises a full day of live music, local food, and family-friendly fun. Festival-goers can enjoy delicious offerings from Junior Betts BBQ, South Shore Taco Guy, and The Nuttiest Cookie, along with beer, wine, and craft cocktails from The Decanted Wine Truck and Pour Garden.
Tickets for the 6th Annual River Rock Music Festival are now on sale. General Admission is $35 online and $40 at the gate. A Playlist Pass offering an elevated festival experience is available online for $100. Children under 13 are admitted free.
