South Shore Conservatory (SSC) invites audiences to step back in time and experience the golden era of swing with Dan Gabel and His Orchestra on Saturday, October 18, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm with doors opening at 2:00 pm in the Carr Amphitheater, One Conservatory Drive in Hingham, as they present “The American Big Band Experience.”
Dan Gabel’s authentic 18-piece jazz big band, featuring award-winning vocalist Kimberly Hawkey, brings to life the timeless music of Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Tommy Dorsey. Step back in time and experience the golden age of swing music.
Appropriate for all ages, enjoy an afternoon of more than just great music. With a food truck, snacks and beverages, lawn games, and more, families are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets, stretch out on the lawn, grab something to eat, and let their kids play, all while enjoying live music from world-class jazz artists. SSC students will be showcased as well, with a student ensemble opening the show and several students invited on stage to solo alongside the orchestra and perform side-by-side with seasoned professionals.
Dan Gabel and his Bands have entertained three governors, a four-star general, sold out concerts, and performed at countless dances, weddings, and fundraisers. Gabel’s arrangements and compositions have been commissioned and performed across the U.S. by professional orchestras, Big Bands, and student ensembles.
Tickets to South Shore Conservatory’s “The American Big Band Experience” are $50 for adult pavilion seating, $25 for adult lawn seating, and $10 for student lawn seating, and may be purchased at https://give.sscmusic.org/the-american-big-band-experience.
